Beatle cover albums
"I Am Sam" soundtrack (all Beatle covers)
George Martin -- "In My Life"
The Essential Cilla Black 1963-78: Two-disc retrospective, nice complement to "The Abbey Road Decade," that includes all her originally issued Lennon-McCartney covers, as well as all her Burt Bacharach covers, plus other tracks.
Various artists -- "Lost Songs: Songs the Beatles Wrote But Never Recorded"
"Steal This Movie" soundtrack (features Ringo on cover of "Power to the People")
Cilla Black -- "1963-1973: The Abbey Road Decade": Absolutely wonderful compilation of Cilla's work, all of it produced by Sir George Martin. It includes all her hits, several covers of Lennon and McCartney songs, plus rarities, including an unreleased version of "Step Inside Love" with Paul on acoustic guitar. Plus rare pictures and a detailed booklet.
Ann Dyer and No Good Time -- "Revolver: A New Spin" : Interpretations of songs from "Revolver," plus "Rain."
Various artists -- "Here, There & Everywhere: The Songs of the Beatles" : Windham Hill artists, including George Winston, Tuck & Patti, Michael Hedges and Liz Story, do the Beatles.
"Instrumentally Yours: Beatles Classics": Beatle covers, Muzak-style.
Wayne Gratz -- "From Me To You: Love Songs of Lennon & McCartney": Gentle versions of L-Mc songs.
Rab Hawat -- "The Spirit of Lennon & McCartney: Beatle covers featuring acoustic guitars, nature sounds and ambient harmonies.
Various artists -- "The Lennon and McCartney Songbook, Vol. 1": Great British collection of older Beatle covers featuring Elton John, Cilla Black, Emmylou Harris, the Flamin' Groovies, the Silkie, Monsoon and Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers, among others.
Various artists -- "The Lennon and McCartney Songbook, Vol. 2": Sequel to the above with Gary (U.S.) Bonds, Flamin' Groovies, Fats Domino, Sandie Shaw, Bryan Ferry, Bo Street Runners, Applejacks, the Fourmost, Deep Purple and more.
"Beatle Country" by the Charles River Valley Boys: CD issue of vintage album of Beatle songs put to a bluegrass beat. It's certainly different!
"Basie's Beatle Bag": Beatle songs done by the famed big-band leader and his orchestra. He makes songs like "She Loves You" really swing, man!
"Imagine" by Ofra Harnoy: One of the best, if not the best, Beatle cover album we've heard to date. Cellist Harnoy turns Lennon-McCartney songs into classical works of art. "Free As a Bird" will bring tears to your eyes. Highly recommended.
"Golden Throats 4: Celebrities Butcher the Beatles": Rhino's latest collection of bad tunes, this time bad Beatle covers by such famous names as Bing Crosby, the Brothers Four, Claudine Longet. The highlight (or lowlight, as the case may be) is William Shatner's cover of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," which must be heard to be believed.
"I Got No Kick Against Modern Jazz" -- Various Artists: Great collection of jazz interpretations of Beatles songs.
"Beatlejazz" by Gary Smart and Friends: Brand new collection of jazzy Fab tunes.
"RMM Tropical Tribute to the Beatles" -- Various artists: The Beatles done to a salsa beat? Honest, it's a lot of fun.
Snoopy's Beatles Classiks On Toys: Very charming collection of covers of Beatle songs done on toy instruments. You'll be surprised, as we were, at how enjoyable this is.
