Dear Steve, Just to let you know that the December 2005, issue 318, of Record Collector magazine contains my feature "Unfinished Music - John Lennon Worldwide Rarities On 45" - with an eight-page fully illustrated discography. The discography includes the extremely rare "Interview With John Lennon By Bob Mercer And A Message To The Salesmen" promo single. EMI used my copy of this scarce promo for the bonus track on the "Walls And Bridges" CD re-issue. I had to go down to Abbey Road Studios for them to dub the record...I can now say that I have attended a John Lennon recording session!! Best regards, Pete Nash

The 10 November issue of Hello Magazine might as well be a Beatles Women issue. There is a four page spread on Stella, a page on Yoko, and a page on Heather Mills McCartney's animal rights activism. Heather has been a vegetarian for 12 years -- long before she met Sir Paul! The issue has Colleen McLoughlin on the cover. Who is she when she's at home? She is described as being "Wayne Rooney's fiancee" as if that explained anything! Thanks to our Rosemary Rieman for the heads up on this one
Update (11/05/05)
Uncut has put out an entire special issue profiling their Guitar Heroes. I didn't have time to check out just how they did the ranking, but George Harrison came in on their list at number 5 (Clapton was number 6) with Hendrix in the top spot.
There is a small photo of Yoko Ono in the current issue of Hello (3 Nov 2005, Ulrika Jonsson cover), on Page 71: "Yoko Ono has given the green-and-white striped deckchair of London's parks a makover - with a little hlep from her late husband John Lennon. Her design features the messge 'Imagine Peace' - echoing the titles of John's songs Imagine and Give Peace A Chance. 'He wanted the world to be a beautiful place for all of us,' Yoko, 72, has said of the ex- Beatle. She is among 25 artists, including film director Ken Russell and gashion designer Alexander McQueen, enlisted to liven up the iconic seats. . . ." There is also a small photo of the Imagine Peace deckchair.

The November issue of Britain's Q magazine has hit the stands. This is an "official" Lennon 65th birthday special with two cover variations. Each issue comes with a Lennon Coveed CD with fourteen songs. Thirteen songs are identical on each disc with one exclusive song on each disc. Performers include Madonna, Oasis, Paul Weller, and Stereophonics. Inside the magazine is a Why I Love Lennon with comments from Ringo, Ray Davies, Keith Richards, Ozzy Osbourne, Chris Martin, Paul McCartney, and lots of people you've never heard of; comments from Yoko; Master At Work about John in the studio; Days in the Life with black and white photos from Yoko's archives (many I don't remember having seen before!); an article on John's final 24 hours; an article on "How to buy John Lennon" cds; and a review of "Working Class Hero - The Definitive Lennon" which they gave three stars out of five. This is definitely worth looking for. Barnes and Noble, Borders, and Tower all carry Q. I'm pretty sure I sent an e-mail saying this was coming out in which I said it was Mojo magazine. Sorry for any confusion.Rolling Stone 985 (October 20) has a Paul McCartney cover story. The cover photo is gorgeous! And he's also on the cover of Guitar World Acoustic.

Update (10/3/05)
Hi there, The September/October issue of Headliner, the free digest magazine available at Madison Sq. Garden and Radio City Music Hall has an article on upcoming British acts doing concerts at the Garden, including Paul McCartney. In the Great Performances column article titled 'The British are Coming, The British Are Coming' starting on page 12 features bios and info on Paul, The Rolling Stones, Elton John and Coldplay. There's a nice photo of Paul in his U.S. jacket in the article. U2 are on the cover of the magazine and it can be found in the lobby of Madison Sq. Garden and Radio City Music Hall. Also, the Coming Events brochure found at MSG and RCMH also has the schedule of concerts at both venues and the same photo of Paul in the U.S. jacket is on the cover too. Since I work as a tour guide at The Garden, for those interested in going on the MSG All Access Tours the days of Paul's concerts, I have to give you fair warning: on concert days, there'll be restrictions on the tours. The tours will end by 3pm on these days, so they won't overlap into the soundchecks. Plus, there may be limited access to the arena. You'll be able to see Paul's stage but from a distance, and no videos or flash photos will be allowed. And right up front, there is NO guarantee you'll see Paul before the concert. Heck, I work at The Garden, and there's no guarantee I'M going to see Paul before the concert! I am attending the first and last nights of the shows though. Still, I hope I haven't discouraged anyone from going on the tours. It is a fun tour and I hope you'll consider going despite any restrictions. Cheers,
Old Fred
Hi Steve! Paul is on the cover of the german music magazine "Eclipsed". It´s part 1; part 2 will be in the next issue. 4 pages inside this issue. http://www.eclipsed.de All The Best Markus
Octobers Uncut has front cover and major article on John Lennon, also notification of a new photo by Bob Gruen: JOHN LENNON THE NEW YORK YEARS : published in October by Stewart, Taboris and Chang and 4 star rating of Pauls new album !!
MAJOR INPUT A FREE BEATLES INTERVIEW CD !!!!!!! Q october magazine has news of a Yoko endorsed Q special, John Lennon 65th Birthday celebration curated by Yoko 1 October
October Record Collector has cover with Macca and major interview
Number 19 on "Smithsonian" magazine's list of "The 20 Most Annoying People In History" is Pete Best. Of course, the article isn't entirely accurate in its history. For exmple, it describes Pete as a belligerant in the fight that erupted at the Cavern the first time Ringo played as the band's official drummer. Steve Petrica Bethesda, Md.
Hi Steve--This month'"Mental Floss" magazine'ss a 2-page article entitled "John Lennon's First Album" about the purchase of his stamp collection by the National Postal Museum. The article can be read at http://www.smithsonianmag.si.edu/smithsonian/iss oug Richardson
The September issue of Uncut has a cover story on rock and movie icons with an interesting Paul McCartney/Keith Richards. It also has a CD of covers of the songs on Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited. Most of the performances are pretty good. I usually avoid Uncut. It is a terrible magazine with a prounounced "we're too hip to treat the Beatles with any reaspect" slant but this issue may be worth looking for. Many thanks to my Beatle pal Rosemary Rieman for the heads up on this one!
Update (8/24/05)
Hi Steve! Thought I should let you,a0a 2 page interview with Paul in the British music trade magazine "Music week", issue dated 27/08/05. A great interview with insights into working with Nigel Godrich, and the marketing of the album. Plus, at the moment, "fine line" is getting airplay outside Pauls natural territories, at the moment he is being played on London alternative station Xfm! They play the cream of alternative and indie music - such as Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Oasis, Franz Ferdinand and Gorillaz, so to see him on their heavy rotation list is totally unusual! The Rolling stones new single, not even getting a look in! With regards to the rest of the radio networks, Paul is gaining twice as many plays as the Stones too! Nice! Great work steve as ever, take care,
There are McCartney interviews in the September issues of both of the major UK music magazines: Q and Mojo. The interviews are very similar and neither is essential reading. The big revelations:
1) Macca admits dying his hair
2) He doesn't have kind things to say about the Press to Play album (Hey! I love the title track! It really is one of my favorite Macca tunes!)
3) He says George Martin recommended Nigel Godrich who is producing Chaos and Creation.
The rest of it is stuff you have read over and over and over.

Hi Steve,
Here's the info on our latest TWBF fanzine (regular issue # 55), available now:
In our July / August 2005 issue, The World Beatles Forum fanzine presents an interview with songstress Nanette Workman. Nanette discusses leaving NYC, moving to Quebec, moving to England and recording an Elton John demo - Rebecca, her career as a model, singing backup on the Rolling Stones' You Can't Always Get What You Want, Honky Tonk Women, and Country Honky, working as a backing vocalist with Doris Troy and George Harrison at Apple Records on the Doris Troy album, singing backup on Ringo's You Know It Don't Come Easy and John's Power To The People, and lots more.
Author Piers Hemmingsen offers a quick history of Canadian record labels (with pictures) of releases covered by The Beatles. Many are quite different from their American counterparts. Also, he covers the Canadian Vee Jay Records releases. In another fascinating column, Piers talks about Beatles records imported into Canada. Both articles are outtakes from his new book, The Beatles Canadian Discography (1962 - 1970) Part Two: The Albums.
The Courtney Report, by Chris Courtney, offers a detailed analysis of the Lennon Legend DVD.
We have a contest, open to paid-up subscribers (it's not too late to become a subscriber for the remaining issues), with a chance to win a copy of Steven D. Stark's new book, Meet The Beatles - contest closes September 15, 2005.
Columnist Frank Branchini (Frankly Speaking) speaks his mind about MTV/VH1's first airing of Live 8. In a calmer moment (in his From Capitol Hill column), Frank reviews Ringo's recent NYC concert and reveals his experience at the Pop! gallery where Ringo's art prints are on display.
This issue includes 9 new reviews (CDs, bootleg, DVDs, books), and don't forget our tell-it-like-it-is analysis and commentary columns.
Now in our 10th year and final year, The World Beatles Forum does NOT contain major advertising AND we have never had a price increase.

Hi Steve, I just got my subscriber's copy of the latest issue of Goldmine (#645, April 15, 2005) and it contains the new Beatle Beat column by Gillian Gaar. Not much new news for anyone who's been following your newspage, but a nice addition to the magazine nonetheless. It runs in every other issue, alternating with a column on Elvis. In addition to that, there's also a great interview with Bruce Spizer about "The Beatles Solo On Apple Records," and a review of same (Mark Wallgren, the reviewer, says that it's automatically the top candidate for Best Beatles Book of 2005), along with a great photo of Macca performing with Tony Bennett at last year's Bridge School Benefit on page 16. There's also a nice article on Chris Curtis, which I thought would interest other British Invasion fans. Quite a lot of Beatle-related stuff in this issue! take care,

Hi Steve, Spotted the March 2005 Gourmet Magaizine today at my local library. The familiar-looking cover caught my eye. Here is a link to their website, but the cover photo is rather small: http://www.epicurious.com/gourmet/.
There was a small picture and a one line mention of Ringo in the current issue of ESPN the Magazine. In a joke NFL off season odds speculation it was printed that the odds would be 11 to 1 that NFL commisioner Paul Tagliabue would be receiving a call from Ringo. Thanks for your great web site.

Hi Steve, Beatlefan #152 is out, and in it readers will find: Al Sussman takes a look at the musical transformation that came over The Beatles from late 1964 and throughout 1965, as the The Beatles and Bob Dylan influenced each other, the result being the Fabs' brand of folk-rock. Also in this issue, Yoko Ono talks with Jody Denberg about the two sides of John Lennon reflected in the "Acoustic" album and the reissue of "Rock 'n' Roll", Wally Podrazik examines how Capitol Records' treatment of The Beatles' recordings in the 1960s may have been a precursor to the future of Beatles music in the digital age, Bill King provides A Fan's Notes on those early Capitol Beatles LPs, the second part of Jorie Gracen's interview with tour photographer Bill Bernstein talks about Paul McCartney offstage and backstage, and Belmo provides a preview of his next book with a look at Beatles tribute recordings. And in this issue's Beatlenews Roundup, we offer news on the upcoming McCartney tour, Ringo's DVD project with comic book legend Stan Lee, an on-the-scene report on the McCartney's stint on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?", a chat with photographer Jack Mitchell about his 1980 sessions with John & Yoko, fresh Beatlejuice from Norm and Shake and more Beatle mysteries solved by The Word. Hi Steve -- The February 2005 issue of Playboy has an article on Jerry Lee Lewis entitled "Natural Born Killer," by Robert Gordon with a brief Ringo anecdote. According to Lewis, Ringo was supposed to play on Lewis's 1973 "London Sessions" album; however, "we kept him waiting--not on purpose, but it just happened--until he couldn't get in the room and he announced, ' Y'all can shove this record up your butts,' and he walked out of there." Gordon adds "Ringo Starr probably didn't say 'y'all,' but Lewis sure did, cackling."

One rare Beatles' autograph using these names was found recently. Kenji explains all the story. Also, Kenj Maeda remembers letter which he received from the actor Leo McKern in 1995. Saw your magazine update on Guitar World Acoustic. Just a quick note to let you know that the same interview with Paul appears in its sister magazine Guitarist plus a serious in-depth look at John's guitar playing which is very positve and points up how innovative some of John's fretwork was, despite his modesty in this area. The magazine also includes a lesson in how to play Here Comes the Sun including a demonstration on its free CD and a video section demonstrating Macca's unique acoustic guitar playing style. Keep up the great work Steve,

The January 2005 issue of Trains magazine has an article titled "Night Train to Beatlemania" written by Ron Flanary about taking the train to see the Beatles perform in Cincinnati on August 20, 1966. This article is mostly of interest as an oddity. I didn't find Flanary's comments about the show to be particularly interesting his train commentary was nerdy even by railfan standards. Accompanying the article are five photos by Gordon Baer.
TV Guide has one of it's many multiple cover weeks coming up to celebrate the Greatest TV Moments and the Beatles with Ed Sullivan are one of the covers (Captain Kirk and Lieutenant Uhura are another cover due to the famous interacial kiss episode of Star Trek back in the 60's). Love your site,

Update (11/24/04)
The Mojo John photo was taken in the summer of '67, with John very much in the 'Sgt' Pepper' look. He's carrying Julian's bucket and spade, with Julian and Mimi. The photo was taken in the seaside resort of Bournemouth, on the south coast of England. Particuarly interesting to me, as I live in Bournemouth.
Update (11/23/04)
Steve, I love and read your news every day! I think the Mojo picture in the December issue must be John, Mimi and Julian in 1967, as Sean was not born until 1975. Thanks for all your hard work!
Hi Steve, I thought you might be interested in a couple of Beatles related items that had appeared over here in England. The December issue of Mojo magazine has a previously unpublished photo of John, Sean and Aunt Mimi taken while on a day out to the seaside in 1967. It's worth seeing, not least as John's fly appears to be wide open. George's garden was featured in a BBC 2 television programme "Gardens Through Time." It didn't mention George but Sir Francis Crisp, the original owner, was profiled. The garden is fantastic. It's a shame that so few people get to see it. But of course it's still a family home and closed to the public.
Steve: Just wanted to pass along this one. The December/January '05 issue of GUITAR WORLD-ACOUSTIC has a McCartney cover, interview (a way excellent picture of Sir Paul along side his Epiphone Texan acoustic.., which Gibson will be replicating to sell with proceeds going to Adopt-A-Minefield. There will be several classifications of rarity on those for sale, so if you're interested, hurry!) Fairly nice interview with a small exert from ex-Winger Laurence Juber, a positive review of Lennon's "Acoustic" CD, plus transcriptions of "Mother Nature's Son" & "Strawberry Fields Forever". As a closing note, let's see if Paul plays "Blackbird" on his next tour, and if so if he introduces it as "Bachbird"!
Issue 840 of Hello (2 November 2004, Hugh Grant cover) is full of Beatle photos and articles: photos of Paul, Heather and Beatrice (whose face is pixillated) on the Beach in California (P. 24), Sir George and Lady Martin (P. 31), a yellow submarine related photo (P. 38), Ringo and Barbara (P. 47) and an article about Joe Brown where he talks about his friendship with George Harrison (P. 112). Barnes and Noble and Borders carry Hello. Since this is a weekly magazine if you are looking for it you better move fast. Thanks to Rosemary Rieman for the heads up on this one. Frank C. Branchini

Hi, Steve-- The November issue of ICE Magazine has a "Compact News" story on the two new Lennon albums, which includes some previously-unknown recording dates for some "Rock and Roll" tracks. Update (10/25/04)
The Beatles issue of Goldmine magazine is hot off the press. It contains an irreverent career overview by British writer Sean Egan, an article on a Toronto John Lennon art exhibit, an article on how the Beatles affected punk music, book reviews, articles on the Al Brodax revisionist history book on Yellow Submarine, an interview with Tom Wilkes (the graphic designer behind George's first few albums), a funny story from a collector who thought he had a John Lennon autographed sleeve to Yoko only to finally realize it was the standard P.O.B. inner sleeve and much, much more. Oh yeah, it also has an article on the first four U.S. albums by some tax attorney from New Orleans. In the article, the obsessive author provides the names of the Capitol engineers who mastered the mono and stereo albums, making this information public for the first time. (Like, duh, who really cares about that stuff!!!!) The wrap-around back cover features a ad for some books that everyone in this group should own. Nuff Said!!!!! Hi :-) Anyone in the San Diego area might want to pick up a copy of the Reader, the free local weekly magazine this week. The Oct. 21 (available until Oct. 27) issue has a major cover story called "Curse of the Ranch," the story about Ralph Whitworth, the man who paid $1,000,000 to have Paul McCartney play at a local club for his wife's 50th Birthday party. The article focuses on the couple's recent split, but includes info on that secret gig, and the issue sports a full color picture of Paul McCartney with Wendy Whitworth from that night on the cover. You can also see it onlinehttp://www.sdreader.com - click on the cover to read the article- thanks again for a great site! :-)

Hi Steve, Beatlefan #150 is out, and in it readers will find: Al Sussman reveals the Top 25 most popular covers versions of Beatles songs in American and Britain, based strictly on chart showings. Here's a surprise: The oft-played Beatles cover used as theme song for a popular TV series a few years ago didn't make the U.S. Top 25! We throw in our own honorable mentions of songs that didn't make the list but are worthy of your attention, too. Also in this issue, we present an exclusive interview with "Let It Be" director Michael Lindsay-Hogg, excerpted from Belmo's new book "The Beatles Artifacts", in which he talks about shooting the "Paperback Writer"/"Rain" and "Hey Jude"/"Revolution" promos, the inside story of how "Let It Be" was filmed, what happened when George Harrison walked out of the sessions and why it's taken so long for Apple to prepare the long-awaited "Let It Be" DVD! We also present the never-before-revealed story of the Man Who "Killed" Paul McCartney -- in other words, the guy who inadvertently may have launched the Paul-Is-Dead phenomenon and the story of the real car crash behind it! Rip Rense also speculates about the One After "Abbey Road" -- the Beatles album that might have been. And Vicki Peterson of The Bangles tells Beatlefan readers all about meeting and being honored by Paul McCartney in Liverpool this summer! Update (9/26/04)
A sort of obscure one, but for those who collect magazine's with Beatle cover stories. The Sept/Oct '04 issue of AIRLINERS (#89) has an article with a few pix detailing info on the 'American Flyers Airline-AFA', which the group used for their '64 & '65 U.S. tours. Not essential reading by any means, but a few nice first hand recollections by those who were involved with the airline at that time. The website for the 'zine is www.airlinersonline.com & an 800 number to see who might sell it in your area, 800-221-3148. Cheers!
Update (9/23/04)
Thank you for mentioning our first issue on your site! I thought you might like to know that our second issue is now online, and has more Beatles content - an article about Paul McCartney playing "Mull of Kintyre" in Toronto on the Drivin' USA tour. That article can be found here: http://www.beingtheremag.com/content/0409/beenthere.html Thanks again -

IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GUITAR PLAYER MAGAZINE TO CELEBRATE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF BEATLES ARRIVAL IN AMERICA AUGUST 2004 COLLECTORS ISSUES OFFERS FANS CHANCE TO WIN INSTRUMENTS MADE FAMOUS BY THE BEATLES Los Angeles, June 6, 2004: It's been forty crazy years since four mop-topped lads-George, John, Paul and Ringo set foot in the Ed Sullivan Theatre in 1964 and shook up the world of modern music. In honor of that historical occasion, Guitar Player Magazine, Gibson, Vox and Backbeat Books are honoring the legacy of the Liverpudlian band with a series of collectors issues available nationally on newsstands June 29th . The special issues will feature a series of five covers with rare photos of the Fab Four together as well as individual covers of Paul, John and George and Ringo. Readers will also have the opportunity to win one of 40 prizes including boxed set editions of all five covers, "Beatles Gear: All the Fab Four's Instruments, from Stage to Studio" books and one grand prize worth over $5,000. The grand prize winner will receive a rig of gear including the the Epiphone Casino model guitars that John Lennon and Paul McCartney played and Vox's Valvetronix amplifier that captured the unique sound of the British invasion. "It is said that the Beatles appearance on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964 launched 1,000 bands," said Michael Molenda, Editor in Chief of Guitar Player. "I think the main reason was because John and George showed millions of viewers how cool and sexy it was to bash out rock and roll on a guitar. On the 40th anniversary of the Beatle's first trip to America, the Guitar Player staff thought it appropriate to really study the affect that moment had on guitarists and the guitar craft in general. It was a world changing moment and made Guitar Player Magazine possible."
Hi Steve,The version of Temporary Secretary found on the Uncut magazine disc was taken from a CD called "A Secret History" released Nov. 17, 2003 under the artist name New Religion. A large sample of this mix is used in the McCartney 2004 pre-show. Here is a write-up and track listing:
There's no denying the awesomeness of New Religion's compilation of '80s left-field dance music, A Secret History. It would be ridiculously revelatory if it had come out before compilations/series like Tommy Boy's Perfect Beats, Strut's Disco Not Disco, Soul Jazz's Mantronix-curated That's My Beat, and Tigersushi's More GDM. Most of the tracks on this disc were made available on those earlier comps; to that extent, it doesn't fully live up to the name of the title. Still, it doesn't make much sense to have a bone to pick with another set that surveys a point in time when risk-taking club jocks were spinning a very disparate range of artists - artists who were all discovering the possibilities of new, more affordable technologies. Italo-disco, new wave, industrial, electro, and the avant-garde all cross-sected to soundtrack underground clubs with audiences that didn't care where it all came from. This is how we've ended up with a disc that includes both Paul McCartney and Throbbing Gristle. With the increasing compartmentalization of dance music that began in the late '80s and continued throughout the early 2000s, with no foreseeable end, A Secret History is another valuable reminder that club music's lines of separation have grown far too thick. - Andy Kellman1. Hypnotic Tango performed by My Mine 2. Problemes d'Amour performed by Alexander Robotnick 3. Temporary Secretary performed by Paul McCartney 4. Frequency 7 performed by Visage 5. Copies of the 12” single have been surfacing on EBay over the past few months. Keep up the good work,

Yoko is featured in this week's issue of French magazine "Elle". There is a one page long article entitled "A day with Yoko Ono". It's a nice little piece about her daily life in which she speaks about a typical Yoko day, waking up at 7, having just an espresso and nothing else, going out for a walk in Central Park with her bodyguard and much more. She says that nothing has changed in the Dakota till John died. She still has his clothes where they were.About the four Beatles she says "George was an Indian from India, Paul a producer, Ringo down to earth, and John a priest...as for me, a good witch!"
She listens to Indian music when she needs to relax. The article is accompanied by a photo of her sitting cross-legged on a white bed.
I think you might be able to access the article by going to elle.fr.
Keep on the good work!

John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band Magazine Alert: The March 2004 issue of Record Collector magazine arrived in the mail last Wednesday. There's a nice article by Keith Badman in the "Transmission Impossible?" page about the February 1970 tapings of Instant Karma for Top of the Pops. The two promo videos of the song are looked into, and a 16mm Instant Karma promo is mentioned. On the opposite page is an article semi-linked to Paul. It's a one page history of the UK Now That's What I Call Music releases.( I have several of the older UK Now CD's in my collection). Pipes of Peace was one of the tracks on 1983's Now Music 2, followed by No More Lonely Nights Arthur Baker dance mix on 1984's Now Music 4. After that, Wonderful Christmastime, My Brave Face, Hope of Deliverance, and Young Boy were tracks on future Now Music compilations.Coming Up and No More Lonely Nights were featured in the 1980 and 1984 Now Music Millennium CD's. If I've missed some songs, please correct me.
Steve,Rolling Stone's March 4 issue, with Beyonce on the cover, has a nice spread on George's reissues. It is a pretty positive overview, although I don't understand why "Live In Japan" never gets a good review!
Take care,
Tim Smith
Update (2/26/04)
The March 2004 issue of Prevention magazine has an article titled "We test it: Healthy Frozen Meals". One tested in the vegetarian category was Linda McCartney's Spicy Thai Veggie Pizza. The comment from one tester was "out of this world" who raved about the crust which is a real problem with most microwave pizzas. The article is also online at prevention.com. Search healthy frozen meals on their site and you will find it.
Update (2/22/04)
Steve, I thought this might be of interest. The Feb. 2004 Guitar World -Special Collectors Issue- "Guitar Legends" #66, in an article re-printed from Gutar World -Jan. 2002, entitled "Fab IV - The Making Of Led Zeppelin IV", with Jimmy Page, on page 45, has a reference to George Harrison. The interviewer asks Page, " Finally is there any truth to the rumor that George Harrison inspired the Zeppelin anthem ("Stairway To Heaven")?. Page scratches his head and laughs in sudden recognition: "You've got the right story, but the wrong song! George was talking to Bonzo (drummer John Bonham) one evening and said, 'The problem with you guys is that you never do ballads'. I said, 'I'll give him a ballad!' and wrote 'The Rain Song', which appears on "Houses Of The Holy." In fact, you'll notice I even wrote 'Something' in the song's first two chords!"Love your site, thanks for everything!
My wife found the specialty mag published by AMI of Boca Raton, Florida "40th Anniversary Collector's Edition: The Beatles". Since she was flying home on a business trip, she actually looked at and read every word in the mag. She found an incredibly glaring (and what she termed "stupid") error. For those who have the mag, look at pages 102-103 and read the caption under the picture of The Beatles with The Marharishi. "UNIDENTIFIED WOMEN" ?????
Update (2/18/04)

It's a nice looking mag, heavy glossy cover and glossy pages. Most of the photos we have seen before or variations thereof. Oh, almost forgot, Pete Bennett does the introduction.

Also, I went to Barnes & Noble where I found a new Alan Clayson book, this time about Paul, simply titled "Paul McCartney." Fun stuff! Happy Valentines to you!

Steve, in the current issue of GUITAR ONE magazine, George Harrison placed at no. 16 as one of the "50 Greatest Superstars of the Stratocaster". The magazine listed the 50 greatest musicians who played the Fender Strat. Jeff Beck came out no. 1 in the poll. Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, and Buddy Holly (the first famous musician to play a Strat) made the list. The Strat is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The magazine also had a special section on "Rocky", Harrison's psychedelic 1961 Strat with a photo of the instrument. Harrison played the Strat on "Nowhere Man" and is seen playing it in the "I am the Walrus" sequence in the movie MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR. Harrison also played it on his 1974 World Tour and brought it out again in the 1990s. He is shown playing "Rocky" in the studio in the ANTHOLOGY 3 album booklet so the guitar was used on Beatles studio sessions. Harrison played a variety of guitars, including a black Gretsch Duo Jet and a black Country Gentleman (probably most famous), a reddish sunburst Rickenbacher 12 string, a dark red Gibson SG Standard, a red Gibson Les Paul, and a custom rosewood Fender Telecaster at the Let it Be sessions. Nevertheless, "Rocky" the 1961 Sonic Blue Fender Strat was one of his favorite guitars. John Lennon also had a matching 1961 Sonic Blue Fender Strat as well.

Also in this issue, we feature Frank Branchini's regular column and The Completist is back with four of his most memorable purchases, including the very rare, Alice In Wonderland soundtrack album. Happy New Year! It is start of a new month -- and not only that, the start of a brand new year! And with it comes the new issue of ROOFTOP SESSIONS, the monthly e-zine featuring the finest in Beatles-related fan fiction, this month featuring four stories and a poem for your enjoyment! There are several announcements before I tell you about the contents of the January issue, so I will get the housekeeping items out of the way first. * Due to excessive spam and viruses coming in to my personal Rooftop Sessions e-mail address, it has been eliminated and replaced with a new one. If you need to reach me, you must go to the new "Contact The Editor" page at http://www.rooftopsessions.com/mailme.html to get the proper procedures to get in touch with me. * Rooftop Sessions is currently looking for stories set during the time of the Beatles' arrival in America to be included in a special February 2004 issue devoted to the 40th Anniversary of this event. If you have any "Beatlemania" themed stories, please think about submitting them for consideration before January 25. * A story from the Rooftop Sessions archives, "She's Got A Ticket" by Elizabeth Darcy (http://www.rooftopsessions.com/Shesgotaticket.html), has been featured in the Winter 2004 issue of Daytrippin' Magazine, available now at Tower Records locations and by subscription. Many thanks to Trina Yannicos, Daytrippin's editor, for her wonderful support, and for helping to make fabulous fan fiction available to all! * Yet more revisions have been made to the SUBMISSION GUIDELINES (http://www.rooftopsessions.com/guidelines.htm), so if you are considering a submission, please go and read them beforehand. And now, without further ado, we proudly present to you the January issue: "Born With A Jealous Mind - Part 2" by Lena King - In the aftermath of their disastrous New Year's Eve, Lee disappears -- leaving John and the others frantically searching for her. "Harrison" by Amy Dashwood - A short free verse poem, told from the perspective of a fan at a Beatles stadium show. "Julia" by Angel Godiva - Wedding bells (and bills!) are ringing for Mary and John's daughter Julia, and the other kids are growing up fast -- too fast! "Life As Art" by Britt Terry-Smith - Valerie Moore, a potter, takes up a second job in late '60s London. She meets new friends and her life begins to change almost immediately."Looks Like We Made It" by Linda Cooper - When Shea finally returns to London after spending a year away, she doesn't know how she's going to handle seeing Paul again...until she realizes that the pull of the heart is a very potent thing. As usual, the URL is http://www.rooftopsessions.com -- and as usual, there are e-mail addresses for each of the authors at the end of every story. Please feel free to contact them and tell them what you think of their work -- they love to hear from readers, and your comments mean a lot. Enjoy the January issue, and may 2004 be a year of great joy for all...and may it be the year we finally see world peace. Susan Ryan
