Update (5/28/05) The UK Telegraph reports Ringo has finally responded to the prospect of one of his childhood homes being torn down. He told the paper, "Why are they knocking them down? If it is economically viable, they should do them up. ... Are they going to knock out the centre of Liverpool again? That's what they did before. They moved everybody to high-rise apartments outside the city and forgot to rebuild." (Also see this report in IC Cheshire and the Scotsman.) (Thanks to Marty McKee and Karen Dyson.)
(2/9/05) IC Liverpool reports that residents of the Dingle area of Liverpool -- where Ringo lived as a child -- have voted to demolish thousands of homes in the area, including one where Ringo lived on Madryn Street. However, his former house on Admiral Grove will not be destroyed, the report says. The 15-year redevelopment plan has won approval from conservationists, including the Merseyside Civic Society, while English Heritage is working with Newheartlands to ensure certain historic buildings remain protected.Spokesman Peter Flynn of the Newheartlands pathfinder scheme, said 4,000 homes would be refurbished. He also commented on the proposed razing of one of the home where Ringo lived, saying, "Ringo lived in a number of houses growing up."
