Report: Apple can't stop illegal Beatle products since Aspinall's death

(5/3/2008) A somewhat sketchy story from
the Daily Express claims that critics of Apple Corps are saying it has been unable to stop illegal sales of the group's work in the weeks since the death of Neil Aspinall. The story contains this unsourced quote:

“Neil Aspinall had a reputation for really keeping his eye on the ball when it came to protecting the band’s interests,” insists an industry source.

“But there’s a worry Apple has really taken its eye off the ball of late, as there are a number of essentially bootlegged products using The Beatles’ music and film footage, being bizarrely sold in the shops and on the internet.

“One obvious example is their film Let It Be, which has never been released on DVD or video by Apple but is openly for sale on the internet as a pirate copy. The feeling is Apple really needs to get its act together.”

However, "Let It Be" was out there in many ways for many years, including when Neil ran Apple. Little has changed in the very short time since his death.

The Daily Express said Apple declined to comment. A spokesperson for Capitol Records contacted by Abbeyrd's Beatles Page also issued a "no comment."
