  • The Harrow Times has a story about a scene for the upcoming film "Nowhere Boy," the movie in production about the life of a young John Lennon, being filmed in Pinner in the UK. The location was used to represent a Liverpool street scene of the 1950s, the paper says. The film, which stars Kristin Scott Thomas as Aunt Mimi, Aaron Johnson as the young Lennon and Anne-Marie Duff as his mother Julia, won't be released until next year.

  • The Weinstein Company has acquired U.S., Latin America, and German rights to "Nowhere Boy," the film about John Lennon's early life set to come out in December, reports Entertainment Weekly. The film, based on the memoirs of John's half-sister, Julia Baird, will be directed by Sam Taylor-Wood. Aaron Johnson stars as Lennon, Kristin Scott Thomas plays Aunt Mimi and Anne-Marie Duff will play Julia, his mother. Production has begun in Liverpool. The BBC website has a video report on the film.

  • Eighteen-year-old Thomas Sangste will reportedly play young Paul McCartney in the forthcoming film "Nowhere Boy," about the early life of John Lennon, according to the Daily Mail. Sangster, the cousin of actor Hugh Grant, has been seen previously in "Love Actually," "Tristan + Isolde," "Nanny McPhee" and "The Last Legion." He joins castmembers Aaron Johnson (John Lennon), Kristin Scott Thomas (Aunt Mimi), Anne-Marie Duff (Julia) and Josh Bolt (Pete Shotton). The movie is based on a memoir by Lennon's half-sister, Julia Baird.

  • Aaron Johnson, whose credits include "The Illusionist" and the TV series "Nearly Famous" and "Talk To Me," will play the young John Lennon in the upcoming film "Nowhere Boy" about Lennon's early life, reports the Daily Mail. Anne-Marie Duff will play John's mother, Julia, while Kristin Scott Thomas will play Aunt Mimi. The paper says it will go on location around Liverpool in March. The script was inspired by a memoir by Julia Baird, Lennon's half-sister. The paper says the film will include how he came to live with Aunt Mimi and later formed the Quarrymen.

  • Actors are being sought for the roles of a teenage John Lennon and Paul McCartney, reports the Liverpool Echo.   • This UK Telegraph story has a picture of actor Alan Swoffer in character as Lennon. Swoffer has previously played Lennon in the film "The Bank Job."

    (7/19/2008) John Lennon's childhood will be the subject of a movie now being written, reports the BBC and the UK Metro. "Nowhere Boy," the story of John's childhood growing up with his Aunt Mimi and based on the book "Imagine This: Growing Up With My Brother John Lennon" by his half-sister, Julia Baird, is being written by award-winning screenwriter Matt Greenhalgh, the winner previously of a Bafta Award for "Control," the biofilm about Joy Division's Ian Curtis. The project, one ofseven projects given lottery-funded development grants by the UK Film Council, will be produced by Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae for Ecosse Films.
