San Francisco Art Exchange to Host "The Beatles in India: Creativity and Inner Peace"

Paul Saltzman's Rare Photos Capture Beatles' Legendary Pilgrimage to India 40 Years Ago

WHAT: San Francisco Art Exchange (SFAE), the worldwide leader in presenting the most important imagery from popular culture, is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' historic trip to India. For the first time ever, Paul Saltzman's The Beatles in India: Creativity and Inner Peace, a collection of intimate photos of the rock band, is on exhibit in the U.S. Guests who attend the exhibit opening at SFAE will have the opportunity to meet Paul Saltzman - the noted photographer, and award-winning film producer and director - and view over 35 prints chronicling what is considered to be The Beatles' single most creative period.

In late 1967 Saltzman visited the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ashram in India to study meditation. He met, hung out with and photographed The Beatles, actress Mia Farrow, and musicians Donovan and Mike Love. During this period the group composed 48 new songs, 17 of which appeared on The White Album, including such classics as Ob-La-Di,Ob-La-Da, Rocky Raccoon, While My Guitar Gently Weep, & Dear Prudence. Saltzman captured the only photos of this creative period, including The Beatles in Rishikesh, which features the entire party with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and Perfect Harmony, in which Paul McCartney and John Lennon are seen composing a song. These two pieces as well as 35 others are on display and available for sale in prices that range from $1000 to $4500.
