PETER GREEN'S FLEETWOOD MAC: LIVE AT THE BBC (Castle Communications): Someone try and tell me this wasn't influenced by the Beatles BBC set. This one has a sepia tone cover, and it's a double disc set. Still, this doesn't excite me as much as the Yardbirds set below or the Beatles set does. On the plus side, there are a number of tracks here they didn't release on record. On the other side, classics like "Rattlesnake Shake" and "Oh Well" really lack punch in mono. And the CD booklet makes a goof: It was the Beatles "Sun King," not "Here Comes the Sun," that was written in tribute to Peter Green's "Albatross." In any event, how about gathering together the various parts of the stereo live in Boston gig that's available in bits and pieces on a bunch of different discs and putting the whole thing out in one set? Still, this isn't bad, since the Peter Green Mac far outshadowed anything that came after it. But it just could have been better. (March '96)
