FLEETWOOD MAC -- THE COMPLETE BLUE HORIZON SESSIONS 1967-1969 (Sire) (9/13/99) If you subscribe to the "Peter Green Is God" theory (no offense, Eric Clapton fans) as I do, then the appearance of this six-CD set will thrill you. The set contains all six of the group's albums originally issued on Blue Horizon Records, which was producer Mike Vernon's label for Mac and other blues-related recordings, many featuring Green or Mac as backup. Those records are "Fleetwood Mac," "Mr. Wonderful," "A Pious Bird of Good Omen," "Blues Jam in Chicago Vol. 1," "Blues Jam in Chicago Vol. 2," and "The Original Fleetwood Mac." The tapes have been cleaned up -- they sound absolutely wonderful. The real attraction, however, is that 33 tracks have outtakes and studio talk attached. (There are eight takes alone of "Need Your Love So Bad.") Each album comes in heavyweight card miniature versions of the original record sleeves. (And "Mr. Wonderful" folds out, just like the original.) The set also includes a 32-page booklet of notes written by Vernon which includes a dialogue with Peter Green. This is a dynamite set anyway, but given the fact that the price is about what you'd pay for two of the currently available imports here in the States makes this a real bargain. For fans of Mac's Peter Green days, this one is an absolute must. (Sept. '99)
