FRANK SINATRA -- THE COMPLETE CAPITOL SINGLES COLLECTION (Capitol): How many different ways can you package Frank Sinatra's music? It would seem we've seen all of them in the last few years, but it's surprising it's taken this long to get this one. This really isn't a greatest hits package, though many of his most famous songs from his Capitol period are here. This is Sinatra at his most commercial from a period filled with perhaps his most commercial music. Put aside Will Friedland's liner notes, which try to be analytical a lot more than they should, and appreciate the songs for what they are...some of Sinatra at what many regard as his peak (though I have a fondness for his Reprise period, as well.) The set includes five bonus tracks, including two previously unreleased. Sound is superb. This is a must for anyone who loves Sinatra. In yet another way to package Sinatra, Capitol launched a "Frank Sinatra Sings the Select ..." series, with each disc spotlighting different composers. I've only heard the Johnny Mercer and Rodgers & Hart discs, but they're superb, especially the Mercer. Of course, when you're dealing with a talent as great as Sinatra, it's hard to mess up.
