Aug. 1: Harrison and Ringo Starr, along with Leon Russell, Bob Dylan, Ravi Shankar, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston and others, appear in two shows at Madison Square Garden in a benefit for strife-torn Bangladesh. "The Concert for Bangladesh," a three-disc set featuring much of the evening show, is released in the U.S. on Dec. 20. It later wins Album of the Year honors at the Grammy Awards. A film of the concert opens in theaters in the middle of 1972.
