1990:
Jan. 20: George, Ringo and Yoko Ono, along with Julian and Sean Lennon, attend the ceremony honoring the Beatles' induction into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in New York. Paul decides not to attend, citing "still-existing business differences among the Beatles." In his speech, George says, "I don't have much to say 'cause I'm the quiet Beatle. It's unfortunate Paul's not here 'cos he was the one with the speech in his pocket."
Feb. 10: George Harrison and Jeff Lynne appear on the radio show "Rockline." Harrison sounds a bit drunk, having had a little too much beer before show. However, he performs several songs on acoustic guitar with Lynne, including two songs by the Byrds and "Something."
May: "Traveling Wilburys (Volume One)" is recorded with George Harrison (alias Nelson Wilbury), Roy Orbison (Lefty Wilbury), Bob Dylan (Lucky Wilbury), Tom Petty (Charlie T. Jr.) and Jeff Lynne (Otis Wilbury). The album is released in the U.S. on Oct. 18. Roy Orbison dies of a heart attack only a few weeks later on Dec. 6. A followup album, "Traveling Wilburys (Volume Three)," is released in October, 1990 with no replacement for Orbison.
